Could Michael Bay have done the Main Main justice? The writer for the cancelled Lobo film provides new insights on the ill-fated project.

A lot of projects lay in the graveyard of cancelled DC films. Deadshot, Cyborg, Ben Affleck’s Batman. However, with Lobo officially making his debut in the first trailer for Supergirl, discussion has begun to whir up once more for the Lobo film that was meant to be helmed by legendary action director Michael Bay.

Details on Lobo have been rather sparse over the years, if only because Michael Bay himself hasn’t had any shortage of projects to work on in the meanwhile. However, the writer for the cancelled project, Jason Fuchs, recently made an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused project. During the chat, he revealed some rather interesting details about the film.

“I’m really excited to see Lobo finally make his appearance in the Supergirl trailer. I’d written a Lobo script many years ago for DC. Which, of all the things I’ve written that didn’t get made, I think that Lobo script is my favorite. ‘Cause it was… the tone of that [film] was Guardians of the Galaxy if Quentin Tarantino had directed it.”

Why Was Lobo Cancelled?

The idea of a bloody, violent space adventure starring Lobo is enough to get any DC Universe fan salivating. And given R-rated superheroes were all the rage a few years ago and Michael Bay is such a big name, it may be shocking that the project didn’t get made. However, according to Jason Fuchs, the reason the project was cancelled was because of its violence and placement in the franchise.

“It was a hard-R, psychotic movie. Very violent. It made Deadpool look like a Disney family film. Which is probably why it ultimately didn’t get made.” Fuchs explains. “[Michael] Bay was going to direct it, which would’ve been equally insane. And it was a weird time in the DC Universe, where it didn’t quite fit into what they were doing.”

“But yeah, I loved writing that script and there was a Green Lantern involved. There was all kinds of fun DC characters who popped up in the context of that.”

Given how desperately the DC Universe was clawing for footing at the time, it makes sense as to why Lobo was ultimately cancelled. Though, with the character now getting a resurgence of popularity, the chances of him getting a solo film are higher than ever. Even if Michael Bay’s current Skibidi Toilet commitments keep him from being in the director’s chair!

There are currently no plans for a Lobo solo movie starring Jason Momoa. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
