Michael Caine recently discussed working on Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and called it one of the greatest moments of his career.

Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins reshaped the Batman mythos for the 21st century using a grounded take on the Dark Knight. The trilogy included some groundbreaking performances, with Michael Caine providing a perfect Alfred Pennyworth to go alongside Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne. The legendary actor recently discussed how Christopher Nolan pitched him the character when he was preparing Batman Begins, explaining it was “one of one of the greatest things I have done in my life.”

Michael Caine spoke to The Hindu about working with Christopher Nolan on the trilogy, explaining that the director visited him at home to pitch the role to him. The star joked that he was too old to play Batman, so assumed that he was being asked to play Alfred. Caine also revealed that once the director introduced himself, he knew exactly who it was as the star is a fan of his previous work. “He came to the front door of my house in the country with a script, I could see him through the glass but I couldn’t recognize him. The moment he introduced himself, I knew exactly who he was because I was a great fan of his three small films. I told him, ‘I am too old for Batman. Do you want me to play the butler? What would my dialogues be? Would you like another beverage or more custard?’ So, I did the movie and it was one of the greatest things I have done in my life.”
