Zack Snyder Says Live-Action ‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns’ Film Still Possible

Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder commented on the possibility of a live-action The Dark Knight Returns film.

Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice marked the first time the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel appeared together in a live-action feature film. Despite not being a direct adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, which told the story of an aging Batman’s return the crimefighting, the film borrowed many elements from the acclaimed comic miniseries.

Consequently, some fans wondered if the similarities between Batman v Superman and The Dark Knight Returns meant the latter would not receive a proper live-action adaptation, at least not anytime soon. However, Zack Snyder noted that he believes a live-action adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns is still possible during his Dawn of Justice live commentary hosted by Vero.

During the commentary, Zack Snyder discussed how he drew heavily from The Dark Knight Returns. It was then that the filmmaker noted he believes Dawn of Justice does not negate a live-action adaptation of Frank Miller’s story and that any director could tackle such a project one day.

Here is the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Directed Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Holly Hunter.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
