‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Star Michael Rooker Would Return To The MCU Under One Condition

Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker has revealed that he would be open to make a return in the MCU despite Yondu’s death in the last film.

One of the major complaints of the MCU leading up to the end of Phase 3 was the lack of stakes because there weren’t a lot of major character deaths. However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had one of the most notable with the death of Michael Rooker’s Yondu. It isn’t uncommon for actors to play multiple roles in the MCU nowadays, so an actor can always return. For example, Gemma Chan is playing Sersi in The Eternals after portraying Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel.

Rooker recently appeared on an episode of Inside of You with Michael Rossenbaum, where he was asked if he would return as Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, to which he responded:

“No way, I’m dead. I’m dead. My character is dead. I would play something else, I wouldn’t mind. I would play something else, but why would I want to play Yondu? Yondu had a wonderful, [the] most amazing sendoff that you would ever want in cinematic Marvel history. My god, dude, why do you want to spoil that by bringing the character back now? I’m with Gunn. There’s consequences when you die, you’re supposed to stay dead! What the hell you coming back for? Why are they bringing all these schmucks back? Give me a break. Move on, do another movie.”

While production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early this year, the project was put on hold following Disney’s decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, Gunn will begin production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC. Details on the third chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.
