Man of Steel star Michael Shannon might be popping up in Ezra Miller’s The Flash.

The last time we saw Michael Shannon’s Zod was at the end of Man of Steel, where the character had his neck snapped by Superman. The character was resurrected as Doomsday in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though Shannon didn’t reprise the role as the hulking, super-powered beast. Many assumed that that would be the last we saw of Shannon in the DCEU, but it looks like he might be appearing in Ezra Miller’s upcoming solo film.

According to Warner Bros. UK’s 2022 preview, the actor is set to return as the nefarious Kryptonian in the upcoming The Flash film. Details are largely non-existent on the nature of his return, so we’ll have to resort to speculation. Seeing as the film focuses on time travel and the multiverse, it’s possible that Ezra Miller’s hero could enter into a timeline where Michael Shannon’s Man of Steel character is very much alive. The possibility of archival footage could also be present.

Or, The Flash could very well go back in time, giving us a different look at the Man of Steel character as he tried to invade and colonize Earth. With the multiverse anything is possible, so we’ll just have to wait and see how the iconic DC villain returns.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash will be inspired by the Flashpoint comic storyline, which followed The Flash as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles. It is currently unknown how much inspiration the upcoming Ezra Miller film will take from the comic.

The upcoming solo film will star Ezra Miller reprising their role as Barry Allen from Justice Leauge joined alongside Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Ron Livingston replacing Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, Sasha Calle debuting as Supergirl, and the return of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as their versions of Batman.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on November 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
