Is Luke Cage finally headed back to the MCU? Mike Colter speaks on the possibility of a return as the iconic hero after the success of Daredevil: Born Again.
With Daredevil: Born Again officially bringing Jon Bernthal into the MCU with its latest episode, the clock is officially ticking on which other Netflix heroes could return. While every fan has their own personal preference, perhaps the most consistent name tossed around is Mike Colter. His time as Luke Cage was far from the most defining part of The Defenders saga, but his story ended on such an odd note for such a beloved character that fans are hoping for his return if only to wrap things up in a better way than before.
Mike Colter has been asked plenty of times about if he’d ever be open to reprising his role as Luke Cage in the MCU. The answers have varied from open to being happy to close the book on that era of his life. However, following the success of Daredevil: Born Again, it seems as though Colter has a renewed vigor to bring his beloved hero back to Harlem.
“I still have hopes for it,” Colter explained in a recent interview with Collider. “I don’t think about it anymore. I think there’s always time. I don’t think it’s impossible. Anything can happen.”
Is Luke Cage In Daredevil: Born Again?
From all the information available, it doesn’t seem as though Mike Colter is set to make a surprise cameo in Daredevil: Born Again. However, with season 2 currently filming, that tune could change basically over night. Wilson Fisk is certainly making the streets of New York a lot less safe for families. And given Luke Cage’s status as the protector of Harlem, it would make sense for the character to return in one of the most tumultuous times for the city in the entire MCU.
One idea fans have had when it comes to how Luke Cage could return in Daredevil: Born Again is having him contest Wilson Fisk in the mayoral election. The character has been Mayor of New York in the comics, in particular in the Devil’s Reign line many feel may inspire season 2 of the series. Making Luke Cage the mayor would also tee up Mike Colter for a larger role in the MCU, allowing him to cross over with any number of characters.
