Is Luke Cage finally making his return to the MCU? Mike Colter teases that it’s time to put back on the mantle of the beloved Power Man.
Out of all the Netflix characters yet to make their return in the MCU, Luke Cage has perhaps been the most consistently called for. It seems as though every time that Mike Colter sits down for an interview, he’s asked if he’ll ever play the Bulletproof man again. And while hopes started low, over the past few months things have been looking better than ever.
And now it seems as though a return for the character is all-but-confirmed. In a recent chat with Michael Rosenbaum on the Inside of You podcast, Mike Colter teased that he’s talked about his return as Luke Cage for years with his Netflix co-star Krysten Ritter, and that it may actually be time for that wish to become a reality.
“You know, Kristen [Rytter] and I, she’s been talking about this for years, and I’m always like, ‘Look, you know this, it’ll happen, or it won’t happen.’ Because I was so, like, whatever. I’m like, you know, I’m gonna do something else.”
“I do think now it’s time. I think you know Daredevil’s back. I’ve had discussions with Marvel, and I do think that it’s very, very likely that I will come back at some point, but I don’t know when. But I think I will.”
Mike Colter’s Doubts On Luke Cage’s Return
Of course, anyone who has kept up with the many, many interviews that Mike Colter has done on this topic know that he hasn’t always been so keen on making his return to the MCU. The question is: what’s changed to make him what to play Luke Cage more now than before? The answer seems to simply be that he’s gone and done other stuff since making those comments.
“People are always like, ‘Well, he said he didn’t want to do it.’ I’m like, ‘Well, I wasn’t really thinking about it or interested in it. I just wasn’t thinking about it.’ And now I’m thinking about it a little more because it’s like it’s been enough time, and I feel like I’ve done some other stuff, and I feel like I could do it again. Maybe there’s some stuff we could do that’s different from the last time. I’m kind of open to that now.”
Given the last time fans saw Luke Cage he was transitioning into being a mobster, it’s certain that any potential return to the MCU will result in some major status quo changes. And given how confident Mike Colter is speaking, it’s more likely than not that those changes have already been communicated to him prior to production.
