Is Luke Cage finally making his return to the MCU? Mike Colter reveals that he’s been in talks with Marvel Studios to reprise his iconic role.
Marvel Studios has recently been re-assembling the Defenders in the MCU. The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and, of course, Daredevil have all already made their return. This has led many to ask if Mike Colter’s Luke Cage (and, to a slightly lesser extent, Finn Jones’ Iron Fist) would also be reprising their roles in an upcoming project.
And it seems that, at least for one of them, the future is looking bright. Mike Colter was recently asked about a potential return as Luke Cage during a chat with The Direct. Shockingly, the star seemed to outright confirm that he was in talks with Marvel Studios to reprise his role in the MCU, which itself suggests that the talks are going good.
“Look, I mean, here’s the thing: I have been talking to Marvel, and Jessica [Jones]’ back, and there’s a lot of story left to tell, and I just think that it’d be a shame for me not to pop back up.”
The Unfinished Business Of Luke Cage
Of course, the last time fans saw Luke Cage he was turning into a new kingpin of crime for Harlem. There’s been a perpetual question about whether of not Marvel Studios will continue this thread when the character makes his return to the MCU, or if they’ll simply abandon it. While Mike Colter didn’t say anything specific, he did tease that there was “unfinished business” with the hero.
“Yeah, absolutely [there’s unfinished business]. When I first finished filming Luke Cage, I was sort of ready to do other things and so, as an actor, I’m just looking for something that’s different, and something interesting, and something that I can just sink my teeth into, that scares me a little bit, and something that comes out of left field a little bit.”
It seems Mike Colter is hinting that Marvel Studios might be doing something different with Luke Cage when he finally makes his return as the character. Making him a villain, at least during his introduction to the MCU, could be incredibly interesting. This is especially as the character has had a history with the Thunderbolts in the comics, potentially making him a key figure in a future incarnation of that team.
