Miles Teller, who played Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in 2015’s critically panned Fantastic Four has said that, despite the response to that film, he would still consider taking on another superhero role.
Directed by Josh Trank, 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot starred Miles Teller alongside Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell as the iconic Marvel superhero team. To this day, the film is generally regarded as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. The film took a darker approach to the superhero team, who are generally depicted as one of Marvel’s more lighthearted and fun, failing to win over audiences with its aversion to particularly “comic book” elements.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Miles Teller talked about the superhero genre, confirming he would consider taking on another superhero role. He mentioned how far he believes the genre has come, the history of comic book characters and the passion of fans. Check out the full quote from Teller below:
“I think those characters in the movie adaptations, in the shows have really come a long way. And I think they’ve really, you know, started diving into the complexity of these characters. And these characters have been written for so long and they evolved so much so I think at the end of the day, you’re just looking for a well written character that hopefully you think touches on some things that you could do, and you could bring it to life.
“They’re some of the best fans in the world. Some of the most particular fans in the world, but if you can satisfy that crowd and you can have fun doing it then I mean, that’s great.”
With the rich variety of characters and stories offered up by the superhero genre, it’s encouraging to see Miles Teller wouldn’t be put off by his past experience. With films like The Batman showing dark and brutal takes on the genre can prove just as popular as the brighter, zanier, more otherworldly stories offered up in Marvel films such as the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness there are surely plenty of roles Teller could take on in the world of comic book movies.
