Millenium’s ‘Hellboy’ Reboot Synopsis Teases ‘Crooked Man’ Adaptation

Hellboy can't escape the reboots!

Hellboy The Crooked Man Dark Horse Comics

Millennium Media has revealed the first official synopsis for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man. This adaptation of the 2008 comic book arc by Mike Mignola and Richard Corben sees Jack Kesy taking on the role of the titular demonic character.

The Hellboy synopsis reads as follows: “Stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia, Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent discover a small community haunted by witches, led by the Crooked Man, a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past.”

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola wrote the script of the reboot with his Dark Horse comics collaborator Chris Golden. Brian Taylor is attached to direct the movie, which also stars Jefferson White and Adeline Rudolph. Production begins later this year in Bulgaria.

Hellboy and his history on the big screen

Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set to take fans on a journey through one of the most beloved issues of the original comic series, promising to expand the titular character’s world and explore new depths of the Hellboy mythology. With the movie deep in development, Millenium is said to be in discussions with potential cast members.

The original Hellboy movie, released in 2004, was directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred Ron Perlman in the lead role. It was a critical and commercial success, spawning a sequel, titled Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Despite the popularity of the franchise, plans for a third installment were scrapped by the studio, leaving fans disappointed.

The announcement of a Hellboy reboot came in 2017, with Stranger Things breakout David Harbour attached to star and Neil Marshall set to direct. However, the film received mixed reviews and was a box office disappointment. It seemed unlikely that a sequel would be made, let alone a complete reboot of the franchise. However, Millennium has revealed its intention to breathe new life into the series, with Brian Taylor at the helm.

Brian Taylor is best known for his work on the Crank series, which he co-directed with Mark Neveldine. The films were known for their over-the-top action sequences and unconventional storytelling, which won over fans of the genre. Taylor has also directed other action films, such as Gamer and Mom and Dad, both of which received mixed reviews. It remains to be seen what his vision for the Hellboy reboot will look like, but fans are cautiously optimistic about his involvement.
