During an interview with SiriusXM’s Morning Mash Up, Milo Ventimiglia talked about being told he was too old to play Batman and expressed his excitement for Robert Pattinson over landing the role of the Dark Knight.
Last week, This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia revealed he threw his hat into the ring when Warner Bros. was searching for a new actor to play Batman before the studio informed him he was ‘too old’ to play the latest version of the Caped Crusader. Despite being turned down, Milo Ventimiglia noted that he enjoys playing “attainable” heroes like the characters he plays in This Is Us and the upcoming film The Art of Racing in the Rain:
“Physical age, yes. Maybe looked a little different… but at the same time, there’s plenty of roles out there. I like being the attainable superhero. Like in this movie, The Art of Racing in the Rain, he’s the attainable superhero. Like Jack Pearson in This Is Us, he’s the attainable superhero. I don’t need a cape.”
In May, Robert Pattinson was officially cast as the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. While Milo Ventimiglia admitted that he thinks he always wanted to play Batman, he’s excited for Robert Pattinson over getting the role:
“Robert is an amazing actor, I’m super excited for him. I think I’ve always wanted to be Batman and when there was an opportunity I kind of shut my mouth for awhile and then I kind of said to my reps, ‘can you go ask and inquire and check with that. They said, ‘Milo you are too old.'”
Age aside, do you think Milo Ventimiglia would have been a great Batman? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that reportedly includes Catwoman. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
