A lot of drama has been coming out about Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus projects in the past few days. A new report reveals that the head writer for Moon Knight left the Disney Plus show sometime during development.
Moon Knight has often been criticized for feeling like an entirely different show past a certain point. THR‘s revelation that Jeremy Slater, the head writer and creator of the series for Disney Plus, left the series sometime during production may serve as the answer to that, as it left director Mohamed Diab having to pick up creative control following his departure.
While there’s no reason given for Jeremy Slater quitting Moon Knight, it seems he didn’t leave on bad terms. Slater is still credited as head writer and creator of the series, and even did press when it was released on Disney Plus. However, it certainly doesn’t paint Marvel Studios in a good light that such a driving creative force could leave production so silently, and may paint trouble for a potential second season for the show.
Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight Season 2 Tease
During his New York Comic-Con panel, Oscar Isaac was asked if he plans to return to the role of Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor couldn’t say much but his response suggests that the character has a future in the MCU.
“All I can say is it is not the last we’ve heard of the system that is Moon Knight.”
Developed by Jeremy Slater, Moon Knight was a six-episode series that aired between March and May of this year on the Disney Plus streaming service. While Marvel has yet to announce a second season for Moon Knight, the show’s final episode left the door open for the character to return somewhere in the MCU.
Focusing on a man with dissociative identity disorder, Moon Knight ended with the reveal that the show’s lead character, Marc Spector, has a third persona that uses the name “Jake Lockley” and works with Khonshu, the Egyptian moon god. His two main identities are unaware of Jake’s existence.
The Disney Plus series stars Oscar Isaac, May Calamawy, Karim El Hakim, F. Murray Abraham, Ethan Hawke, Ann Akinjirin, David Ganly, Khalid Abdalla, Gaspard Ulliel, Antonia Salib, Fernanda Andrade, Rey Lucas, Sofia Danu and Saba Mubarak.
