Is May Calamaway joining the DC Universe? The Moon Knight breakout reveals if she has any desire to make the internet’s favorite Wonder Woman fancast come to life.

Looking back, one could say that the reaction to Moon Knight was mixed. Even at a time before the DC Universe renaissance when Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman sequel was the biggest competition Marvel Studios had, the long-awaited adaptation of one of the studio’s weirdest heroes left many fans out in the cold. Despite this, there was one aspect of the show that seemed to be universally beloved: May Calamawy’s Layla El-Faouly, aka the Scarlet Scarab.

So with a season 2 of Moon Knight seemingly not coming anytime soon, fans have turned to the DC Universe as their only hope to see May Calamawy back in the world of spandex and exploding buildings. While dozens of fancast suggestions have been thrown out over the years, perhaps the biggest one to stick has actually been Wonder Woman. Especially as the character is the only member of the trinity to not currently have a live-action actor attached, many see Calamawy as being able to step in as the new face of the heroine.

Is May Calamawy Playing Wonder Woman?

As with most fancast posts online, the actress in question hasn’t spoken on the possibility directly. However, during a recent appearance at Comic-Con France, the question was posed to May Calamawy if she’d ever consider joining the DC Universe as Wonder Woman. Luckily for fans, it seems as though the Moon Knight star is down, even if she isn’t sure exactly how she’d approach it.

“If they want me to play Wonder Woman, I’ll play Wonder Woman,” Calamawy remarked “I wouldn’t want to take anything from [Gal Gadot’s] or, like, anyone else’s performance…I don’t even know, I haven’t really thought about what I would do as Wonder Woman.”

Even though May Calamawy hasn’t put too much thought into how she’d play Wonder Woman, it’s interesting to hear that she’s open to the role. The DC Universe hasn’t been gun-shy about poaching talent from Marvel for their upcoming reboot. And given how much of a fan-favorite she was in Moon Knight, it may be a chance for the actress to get a big boost to her career.
