Like many Marvel projects, Moon Knight spawned a variet of fan theories, but one of the Disney Plus series’ VFX artists has debunked at least one of the many theories concerning Jake Lockley.

Moon Knight introduced Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant and Marc Spector – two alters with dissociative identity disorder, sharing one body. The two characters were also the avatar of the ancient Egyptian moon god, Khonshu, who granted them the powers of Moon Knight. The final moments of the series’ final episode also introduced Jake Lockley, Moon Knight’s third alter in Marvel comics.

Jake’s presence had been teased throughout the series, leading fans to look for signs of the character’s arrival. However, one of Moon Knight‘s VFX artists has now debunked one of these Jake Lockley theories.

No Sign Of Jake Lockley’s Moon Knight Suit

Some fans thought they had spotted Jake Lockley’s Moon Knight costume in the series’ end title sequences. While Marc Spector sported Moon Knight’s classic cloaked and hooded look, Steven Grant’s suit materialized as an all-white three-piece suit with the Moon Knight mask. Some fans were therefore hoping to see a different costume for Jake Lockley as well.

While Jake was never seen becoming Moon Knight in the series, theories emerged online that his cotume could be glimpsed briefly in the end titles. One moment in the title sequence shows the Moon Knight costume appearing, flickering between Marc’s traditional superhero look and Steven’s dapper “Mr. Knight” appearance. The sequence begins with the mask being formed out of bandages, a look some viewers mistook for a distinct costume.

Speaking to Befores & Afters, VFX artist Doug Appleton revealed that this was not the intention behind that shot. After revealing that Moon Knight’s glowing eyes were a later addition to the title sequences to better match the VFX in the episodes themselves, Appleton talked about the moment fans mistook for a Jake Lockley tease:

“So I’m a person that will go online and read what everyone’s saying about everything, whether it’s good or bad, I just love reading all of it. And there were people who would freeze halfway between in the transformation in our title sequence and be like, ‘That’s a different suit! I think that’s Jake Lockley’s suit and they’re teasing it in the sequence!’ I was like, ‘We’re not,’ but I love you saying that, so… we wanna be as true as we can be to the suits in the show, so the glowing eyes are something where we gotta make sure that that’s in there so that we don’t not have glowing eyes and then someone’s like, ‘But that’s a different person!’ It’s all fun, yeah.”

The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
