Jane Foster is worthy!

Thor: Love and Thunder welcomes Natalie Portman back to the MCU and this time she’s the one wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

Thor: Love and Thunder marks the fourth solo outing for Chris Hemsworth’s thunder god in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reuniting him with his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman. This time, however, Jane has taken on the Asgardian’s name, powers and his old hammer. The film draws inspiration from a comic storyline that saw the Odinson deemed unworthy of Mjolnir, which was then taken up by Jane, making her the new Thor.

Natalie Portman Is Thor

A new image from Love and Thunder has been released, showing Natalie Portman suited up as the Mighty Thor, with Mjolnir at her side. As seen in other promotional material for the upcoming Marvel film, Mjolnir’s surface is still riddled with cracks following its destruction in Thor: Ragnarok.

Based on trailers for the film, which have shown Tessa Thompson’s King Valkyrie in a similar location, the Mighty Thor appears to be in New Asgard in the image. The new image of Natalie Portman as Thor, released by Total Film, can be seen below:

It is not yet clear whether Natalie Portman will stay in the role of Thor in the MCU going forward, though director Taika Waititi recently said he didn’t consider Love and Thunder a “passing the torch” film. Either way, Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor is looking ready to take on Christian Bale’s terrifying Gorr the God Butcher.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
