‘Mortal Kombat’ Exceeded Expectations Says WarnerMedia Executive

The film did far better than expected!

Mortal Kombat HBO Max Godzilla vs. Kong

WarnerMedia executive vice president Brad Wilson has revealed that Mortal Kombat has exceeded expectations on HBO Max.

Earlier this year the rebooted Mortal Kombat film debuted in theaters and on HBO Max. Critical reception of the film was mixed and currently holds a 55% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audience reception to the film, on the other hand, has been a bit different as the movie has gone on to earn over $81M worldwide on a $55M budget. But, according to WarnerMedia, the film has been doing even better on the HBO Max streaming service.

In April it was reported that the streaming views for Mortal Kombat had topped that of Godzilla vs. Kong but may have done even better than that. In a recent interview with IGN, WarnerMedia executive vice president Brad Wilson revealed that the film had exceeded their expectations. He did not confirm if this would be enough for a sequel:

“It’s been one of our top assets on the platform. And those customers are now crossing over into watching all the other great titles that we typically see, but also some of the great library content that we have with Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, etc.”

What did you think of Mortal Kombat? Could the HBO Max numbers give us a sequel? Would you even want a sequel to happen? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is the synopsis for the film:
