Power Rangers star Ludi Lin is currently in talks to play Liu Kang in New Line Cinema upcoming Mortal Kombat film.
Variety reports that Ludi Lin of Power Rangers fame will be the newest actor to bring Liu Kang to life. Liu Kang is one of the iconic video game’s original characters and was a main protagonist in the two live-action Mortal Kombat films from the 1990s.
Before Ludi Lin, Liu Kang was previously portrayed by Robin Shou in Mortal Kombat (1995) and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Ludi Lin is the latest actor to join the cast in this reboot. Joe Taslim of The Raid: Redemption fame was cast to play Sub-Zero last month. Ludi Lin’s previous credits include his role as the Black Ranger in Saban’s 2017 Power Rangers reboot as well as Captain Murk in James Wan’s Aquaman. Wan will also serve as a producer on this new Mortal Kombat.
Ludi Lin has been a common choice for fan casting in numerous roles in genre franchises thanks to his role in Power Rangers among other projects. If he officially signs on for Mortal Kombat, the Power Rangers star can add another franchise to his acting resume.

Mortal Kombat is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time and the feature film adaptation that was released in 1995 is still regarded as one of the best video game adaptations in history. But after the sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was poorly received, the mega-franchise stalled out and the fighting game hasn’t been as popular since.
However, the franchise found new life in 2010 when Mortal Kombat: Rebirth made waves online. The web-short from screenwriter Oren Uziel gained enough popularity to spawn the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Uziel initially developed the script for the live-action reboot and even teased the project as an R-rated version of The Avengers. However, Greg Russo penned a more recent draft of the script.
Mortal Kombat is slated to hit theaters March 5, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the upcoming reboot.
