Clayface's cast is growing!

Clayface is finally kicking into high-gear! Naomi Ackie seems set to join the DC Universe as a new synopsis for its most interesting film finds its way online.

Clayface is an odd duck for the DC Universe. Despite filming starting up in just a few weeks, fans know very little about the cast of the project. On top of that, due to the film being a horror movie only loosely based on two episodes of an old animated series, there’s not a clear expectation of what to expect from the film as it hits theaters.

However, given that production is so close, details about Clayface have slowly begun finding themselves onto the net. Perhaps the most interesting is that the cast has now officially grown beyond the titular villain. The latest report from Nexus Point News reveals that Naomi Ackie, best known for her roles in Mickey-17 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is being eyed to join the DC Universe. Her character, Dr. Caitlin Bates, seems to be an original for the film, with their full description below:

“[Clayface/Matt Hagen]’s love interest and co-star in the film is scientist, Dr. Caitlin Bates, an original character created for the film. Bates is the CEO of a biotech startup seeking to create cutting edge medicine and medical technology.”

“Bates sees Hagen as a way to grow her company and cure his condition. Throughout the process she falls in love with him while her fiancé John grows suspicious of their relationship.”

The Wild & Weird Synopsis Of Clayface

The idea of Clayface seeking out help from a biotech firm to cure his condition may seem weird to some. However, the synopsis provided by The Hollywood Reporter does shed a bit of light on this direction. The film seems to be focused on an actor that gets horrifically scarred by a mobster, with the DC Universe’s first horror movie slowly devolving into something far, far darker.

Clayface, which sources have said will have a budget in the mid-$40 million range, centers on an ascending actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, the actor turns to a fringe Elizabeth Holmes-style scientist for help. At first, the experiment is a successful but … well, it wouldn’t be a horror movie if the story ended right there, would it?”

This synopsis is certainly interesting, as most incarnations of the DC Universe have Clayface as a much older actor seeking to return to the limelight. It’s possible these changes were made to avoid comparisons to the Oscar-nominated film The Substance, which came out last year and focused on a similar experiment in an attempt to get an aging star back on top.

Clayface is set to release September 11th, 2026. This project has not yet been confirmed by DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
