Nathan Fillion Reveals New Details About Green Lantern Guy Gardner In ‘Superman’

Nobody likes Guy Gardner!

Nathan Fillion Green Lantern Guy Gardner Superman

Nobody likes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner! The actor reveals new detail about the iconic Green Lantern making his silver screen debut in Superman.

Fans are overwhelmingly happy with the cast of Superman. However, there is one casting choice that has left fans scratching their head. That being, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Fans have been waiting decades for that specific Green Lantern to return to the limelight, but may consider Fillion too old to truly capture the energy needed for the beloved character.

Nathan Fillion actually spoke on being cast as Guy Gardner in a recent appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show. The actor reveals that a large reason he was cast in Superman is because James Gunn puts him in everything he does, for better or for worse. He would go on to tease that he’s playing a version of the iconic Green Lantern that “nobody likes”.

“This is James Gunn. He’s amazing, he’s huge, he’s world famous. Everybody knows him. I did one of his very first movies, and if James Gunn is nothing else, he’s loyal to a fault. He puts me into everything that he does,” Fillion explains. “I’m going to be Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern, not the one you might be [familiar with] but a Green Lantern, the one nobody likes. ”

Nathan Fillion Clarifies The Iconic Bowl Cut

Aside from some fans just not liking Nathan Fillion as a choice to play Guy Gardner, some fans have an issue with the haircut he’ll be rocking in the film. While the Green Lantern is infamous for his dopey bowl cut, some argue that James Gunn made it a bit too ridiculous in Superman. However, it seems that even Fillion was on Gunn’s side when it came to this decision.

“Correction, it’s strawberry-blonde…I think I’m going to bring that look back. It’s comic book accurate; Guy Gardner had a bowl-cut. And there were some discussions early on about different hairdos we could try and I was team bowl-cut.”

Even though not every fan is the biggest fan of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, it seems that the actor does care about bringing justice to the Green Lantern. It’s likely fans’ opinions won’t change when Superman comes out given how odious him and James Gunn will make the character seem. However, one can’t say he didn’t at least commit to the part!
