Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw Karen Gillan’s Nebula equipped with a slew of new upgrades and changes. However, none of the changes that made it to the film are as drastic as the concept art that reveals that she almost had a full head of hair.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concept art was revealed by Andy Park, who serves as Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development. The designs harken back to Nebula’s original look in the comics, which featured dark black hair, albeit not in any of the designs featured on Park’s Instagram post. According to Park, multiple designs with hair were considered before the concepts evolved beyond it.
While Rocket Raccoon was stated to be the secret protagonist of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the film showcased the growth of Karen Gillan’s Nebula more than any other Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Especially when compared to Zoe Saldana’s Gamora in the film, it’s clear how much the character has grown from antagonist into a true hero. It’s possible that giving the character a head of hair could have acted as a visual marker for this change to the audience. Then again, it’s equally possible she just looked too silly with the hair to make it practical.
What to expect from the third Guadians movie
