Neil Gaiman has given us an update on his upcoming Sandman series for Netflix and talks updating the series for the 21st century.
Last year, Netflix officially picked up Neil Gaiman’s and David S. Goyer’s Sandman series. The upcoming show was very close to start production when the coronavirus shut down all of Hollywood. This, however, has not stopped Neil Gaiman from talking about the upcoming Netflix series.
During a virtual press roundtable, Neil Gaiman talked about the upcoming Netflix show and how it will differ from his original comic. Specifically, He addressed how he would update the show for the 21st century and how things have and would change:
“But the idea is that we tell the whole thing. But we also get to do something that I think is kind of special, which is treat it as an audiobook, because doing the Netflix TV series, we’re very much looking at that as going, ‘Okay, it is 2020, let’s say that I was doing Sandman starting in 2020, what would we do? How would we change things? What gender would this character be? Who would this person be? What would be happening?’
What do you all make of Neil Gaiman’s words? Are you glad to hear that he is updating Netflix’s Sandman for the 21st century? Sound the books be left as they are? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
