Netflix is planning two Red Notice sequels with the lead trio expected to return.
Red Notice broke all sorts of records for Netflix, becoming the streaming service’s most-watched film within 28 days of release. While the film failed to become a critical darling, it was clear that audiences were interested in seeing lead stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds trade quips with one another in exotic locales. It was inevitable that a sequel would be announced but Netflix’s plans for the new IP seem to be huge.
With such a monumental success, Deadline has learned that Netflix is planning to shoot two back-to-back sequels, with lead stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds expected to return. Writer and director Rawson Marshall Thurber have reportedly also begun writing the sequels. The outlet reports that Netflix hopes to begin production in early 2023.
The plan for the upcoming sequels is to flesh out the universe and introduce new characters in a fashion similar to the Oceans Eleven films. It’ll be interesting to see who joins the cast of the sequels, though it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Dwayne Johnson collaborator Kevin Hart joining the roster. We’ve been severely lacking in the heist film department over the last few years so it will be exciting to see how Netflix capitalizes on the franchise.
Here is the official synopsis for Netflix’s Red Notice:
An Interpol-issued Red Notice is a global alert to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted. But when a daring heist brings together the FBI’s top profiler (Dwayne Johnson) and two rival criminals (Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds), there’s no telling what will happen.
Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the Netflix film stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, Ritu Arya, and Chris Diamantopoulos.
Red Notice is available to stream now on Netflix.
