Netflix has released an official trailer for its upcoming fantasy series The Witcher: Blood Origin.
A trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin has arrived online ahead of the show’s debut on Netflix next month. The four-part series, which premieres this Christmas, is the first live-action series set in the same universe as The Witcher, with Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh and Laurence O’Fuarain leading its cast. You can check out the Blood Origin trailer below.
In addition to the trailer, Netflix has also revealed a poster for The Witcher: Blood Origin.
The Blood Origin trailer arrives two weeks after the news that Henry Cavill is stepping down from the role of Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher. The show’s third season, which is Cavill’s last, hits Netflix in Summer 2023. Liam Hemsworth is replacing Cavill as Geralt for season four, which is expected to begin production sometime next year.
The team behind the Witcher prequel series
Longtime The Witcher writer Declan de Barra served as showrunner and executive producer on Blood Origin. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Tomasz Bagiński, Jarosław Sawko and Matt O’Toole were also on board as exeuctive producers.
“Set in an elven world 1200 years before the time of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a tale lost to history: the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that led to the pivotal Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one,” according to Netflix’s synopsis for the series.
The Witcher: Blood Origin also stars Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, Dylan Moran, Jacob Collins-Levy, Lizzie Annis, Huw Novelli, Francesca Mills, Amy Murray, Zach Wyatt, Aidan O’Callaghan, Karlina Grace-Paseda, Kim Adis, Sorcha Groundsell, Hebe Beardsall, Tomisin Ajani, Zachary Hart, Minnie Driver, Jordan Whitby, Mark Rowley and Daniel Boyarsky.
