The cast of HBO Max’s Dune prequel series now includes Vikings star Travis Fimmel.
Variety has confirmed that Travis Fimmel has joined Dune: The Sisterhood, the upcoming Dune prequel series that explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit. The actor has signed on to play Desmond Hart, a “charismatic soldier with an enigmatic past, who seeks to gain the Emperor’s trust at the expense of the Sisterhood.” His casting was first reported by The Illuminerdi.
The cast of Dune: The Sisterhood includes Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson, Indira Varma, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds and Chloe Lea. The series begins shooting later this month, with the production based in Budapest, Hungary.
Diane Ademu-John is credited as the creator, writer, co-showrunner and executive producer of Dune: The Sisterhood while Alison Schapker is serving as co-showrunner and executive producer on the HBO Max project. Johan Renck, one of the directors behind the critically-acclaimed HBO series Chernobyl, is directing the pilot.
Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Cait Collins and Brian Herbert are executive producers on Dune: The Sisterhood. Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert are also on board as executive producers, overseeing the project for the Frank Herbert estate. Author Kevin J. Anderson is a co-producer.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, Dune opened in theaters in October 2021. The film brought in $401.8 million globally and won six Oscars at the 94th Academy Awards. The Sisterhood was greenlit a few weeks after the ceremony.
A Dune sequel is also on the way
In addition to Dune: The Sisterhood, Warner Bros. is also working on a sequel to Dune. The film’s official synopsis reads as follows: “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
The Dune sequel is set to star Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub.
