Brand new details for the upcoming John Wick Ballerina spin-off have been revealed thanks to recently obtained casting breakdowns.
The John Wick franchise is continuing to expand with a brand new spin-off focusing on a ballerina assassin. The project was announced in 2017 and will be produced by Keanu Reeves, who kicked off the John Wick franchise in 2014. While details on the John Wick Ballerina film have been slim since the announcement, a brand new casting breakdown obtained by DanielRPK reveal some key new details.
For starters, the studio is eyeing the titular Ballerina role to be played by Chloë Grace Mortetz. Grace Moretz would make for a solid assassin considering she played the role of one in the Kick-Ass films from the 2010’s. The name of the the titular character is Rooney Brown, who is an orphan that grew up within The Director’s crime family. Rooney is a trained global killer but exhibits a strict moral conscience and won’t kill anyone that she believes doesn’t deserve death. The spin-off will focus on Rooney coming out of retirement to target an rival organization that slaughtered her family.
The antagonist of the John Wick Ballerina film will be a Mayor Elias Muller. Muller is the mayor of a tiny town called Sunnyvale and leads a town filled with assassins. Muller is said to want to protect their town, which will be in Europe, filled with assassins from outside forces. While there isn’t any casting information for the antagonist, Anjelica Houston’s The Director and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick are listed as cameos in the casting breakdown.
A release date for the John Wick Ballerina spin-off isn’t set as of yet though the breakdown does list that filming is expected to begin this year. The film will be directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, who also wrote the third John Wick film.
