Is Nicholas Hoult confident in Superman? The Lex Luthor actor reveals his biggest hopes for the film in a recent interview.
The hype for Superman is building at an exponential pace. Everyday that goes by seems to bring more evidence that James Gunn and his team are cooking something truly historic over in the DC Universe. Yet it seems some of the stars have more grounded expectations for the film, with Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult revealing that he just wants to make something people enjoy.
“I’m a fan of Superman and Lex Luthor as a character,” Hoult explained in a recent chat with Deadline. “So hopefully we’ve done something special with it that people enjoy”
Of course, this quote doesn’t mean that Nicholas Hoult is any less confident about Superman than James Gunn or anyone else in the DC Universe. Rather, that the actor wouldn’t be disappointed if it failed to meet the lofty expectations of the audience. It’s certainly a Lex Luthor answer if there ever was to be one. Yet it seems Hoult himself is keeping what it means to be Lex Luthor close to his chest.
What Make Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor Different
Every actor in any role, even outside of the DC Universe, brings a part of themselves to the character. It’s why every incarnation of Superman is different, despite their core being the same. The same goes for Lex Luthor. However, when asked about how his Lex Luthor is different from other incarnations, Nicholas Hoult admitted that he put his trust entirely in James Gunn leading him through the world.
“I think it’s too early to say what’s different about my Lex Luthor. I just loved working with James Gunn, I think he’s an incredible director and has such a great sense of that world, that story, those characters. So I just put my trust in him.”
Given James Gunn’s history with crafting intricate stories in the DC Universe, it’s fair that Nicholas Hoult would put a lot of trust into him when preparing for and working on Superman. Though given the radically different tone the film will have compared to any other Superman project in decades, its certain his take on Lex Luthor will have its own flare to make it unique.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
