Nickelodeon Creating ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Film For Netflix

Turtles Forever Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Netflix NickelodeonThe heroes in a half-shell will soon be headed to a streaming service near you, as Viacom’s Nickelodeon Studios will soon be producing an original animated project based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Viacom CEO Bob Bakish confirmed on a call that Nickelodeon’s films based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Loud House are part of a broader effort to tap into the studio’s intellectual properties and develop original content for a streaming platform. This also builds upon ongoing efforts such as Viacom producing Pinky Malinky for Netflix, as well as the upcoming reimagination of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Here’s what Bakish had to say:

“This is both incremental business and powerful promotion for these two franchises.”

It’s also, as the article noted, the opposite of what you see other studios like Disney and Warner Bros doing, where they’re pulling their content from Netflix in order to start their own service. But in recent years, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has found new life on Nickelodeon. With the many different incarnations and adaptations of the turtles, going back to the first 1990 film and the 1987 animated series, there’s a lot of history when it comes to bringing Leo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo to the screen.

So it will be interesting to see a company actually join forces with Netflix in order to produce original content, rather than draw away from it. That said, what do you hope to see in an animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles produced for Netflix? Do you think we could potentially see something akin to another shot at a live-action Turtles adaptation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

In the meantime, you can enjoy Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which currently airs on Nickelodeon.

Suicide Squad Characters That Can Appear In The James Gunn Sequel

Previous1 of 11

James Gunn Suicide Squad DC ComicsJames Gunn is directing The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. but that comes at a cost.

When the first Suicide Squad was about to hit theaters DC fans were completely ecstatic. The trailers looked great and the feel of the movie was much different than the darkness that preceded it in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This movie was expected to be one of DC’s biggest hits and it turned out to be one of the biggest let-downs of all time.

Suicide Squad was bad and its reviews reflected that. It was one of the only movies I’ve ever been upset at and it made me want to leave the theater. A sequel was announced because the film did well at the box office, going through a number of drafts until James Gunn was brought on to write it. With James Gunn now officially set to direct The Suicide Squad, it looks like the film will be a bit of a soft reboot.

Last night was a bit of a DC maelstrom of news. We got the release dates and official titles of Matt Reeves’ The Batman and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Both movies will be hitting theaters in Summer 2021. Throughout all of the chaos a small tidbit surfaced about The Suicide Squad: the James Gunn-directed film will be some sort of relaunch with new characters and actors. Here are the characters I think James Gunn should introduce in his Suicide Squad movie. Hit Next to view all of my choices.
