Nicolas Cage praised Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige for their continued box office dominance amid recent criticism from notable filmmakers.
Nicolas Cage famously played Ghost Rider in two Sony-Marvel films and Big Daddy in Kick-Ass, but his ties to superheroes goes back decades. Cage was notably up for the role of Superman in Tim Burton’s scrapped film in the ’90s and almost played Scarecrow in a follow-up to Batman & Robin. Cage also named his second child Kal-El, and once possessed a copy of Action Comics #1.
While Marvel and DC films continue to dominate the box office, they have also earned some criticism from renowned filmmakers such as Nicolas Cage’s uncle, Francis Ford Coppola. GQ recently asked Cage what he thought of Marvel films and the criticism they’ve received:
“Yeah, why do they do that? I don’t understand the conflict. I don’t agree with them on that perception or opinion….Marvel has done a really excellent job of entertaining the whole family. They put a lot of thought into it. I mean, it’s definitely had a big progression from when I was doing the first two Ghost Rider movies. Kevin Feige, or whoever is behind that machine, has found a masterful way of weaving the stories together and interconnecting all the characters. What could be wrong with wholesome entertainment that is appealing to the parents and the children, and gives people something to look forward to? I just, I don’t see what the issue is.”
Here is the synopsis for Marvel Studios’ next film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:
The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before.
