Nicolas Cage won’t rule out a return as Ghost Rider for a future Marvel Cinematic Universe Project.
Nicolas Cage has had a strange, almost tragic relationship with comic book-based films. He was originally set to play Superman in the film, Superman Lives but the plug was pulled on the movie following the box office disappointment of Batman and Robin. The actor would eventually portray Ghost Rider in the films Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence. Neither film was a critical or box office success and a version of the character wouldn’t appear again until the fourth season of Agents of SHIELD with a different actor. However, the door for any actor to return in a Marvel film has been opened.
In the Disney Plus show, Loki it was revealed that a multiverse did exist but was kept contained into one timeline. This eventually was undone during the events of the show, and eventually lead to characters from other universes appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most famous of these, of course, was the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield for Spider-Man: Now Way Home. Patrick Stewart is also apparently set to make a return as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With this door open, it begs the question as to who else could return in this film. Nicolas Cage, however, isn’t confirming if he’ll be back as Ghost Rider one way or another.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicolas Cage was asked whether or not he was interested in returning as Ghost Rider in a Marvel project. In response, the actor basically ignored the question to praise the entire medium of comic books without confirming or denying any potential involvement in an MCU project:
“These are hot topics, and I get it, because these are the types of things that become like wildfire on the internet. I’ve always admired the realm of the comic book and I’ve always thought stories were really colorful and entertaining and, frankly, kind of wholesome in a really positive way. I don’t know what the umbrage is with people that want to knock them. I certainly think there’s great value in that they’re bringing happiness to people.”
