Spider-Man Noir is taking a bold, new direction! Nicolas Cage reveals the first details about the upcoming series with Amazon Prime Video.

Fans were cautiously optimisitc when it was announced that Nicolas Cage would be bringing Spider-Man Noir into the realm of live-action with his own Amazon Prime Video series. While it could be one of the most unique Marvel projects of all time, Cage isn’t an actor known for his quality catalogue. However, the actor assured fans the project will at least be interesting.

“We’ll see what happens if I do this Amazon show [Spider-Man Noir], and they put me in black-and-white. We’ll see if we can get some of that flavor,” Cage explained to The New Yorker. “If I do this show, that’s something different. It’s more of a Pop-art mashup, like a Lichtenstein painting, where I want to do something that has some sparkle to it. It’s fun to look at. It won’t be Pig; it won’t be Dream Scenario. But how many of those can you find? I’m just lucky that I found them in my late fifties.”

It’s safe to say nobody had “Spider-Man project inspired by Lichtenstein” on their 2024 Bingo card. However, given Nicolas Cage’s recent pattern of taking big swings and somehow having them pay off, Spider-Man Noir may truly end up being another shining beacon in Amazon Prime Video’s library of superhero series.

Spider-Man Noir Is Light On Violence

Given the character’s original comic and Amazon Prime Video’s history of raunchy superhero projects, many assumed the Spider-Man Noir series would follow in their bloody footsteps. However, it seems Nicolas Cage has a different vision for the project, revealing the show will be more focused on fighting monsters than mobsters.

“I don’t like violence,” Cage continued. “I don’t want to play people who are hurting people. One of the things that I like about this potential show is that it’s fantasy. It’s not really people beating people up. Monsters are involved.”

This may come as a disappointment for fans hoping to see Spider-Man Noir punching Nazis and drinking egg creams. That being said, Nicolas Cage has a long history of playing deeply engaging characters even without hurting other people. One can simply looked to his mute psychopath in Willy’s Wonderland for proof that Amazon Prime Video doesn’t need violence to make him scary!
