Nova and Glenn Close as Overmind almost appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame!
When it comes to creating a substantial finale as complicated and cathartic as Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely had to balance tons of characters and storylines. In the end, they had to cut a quite few things from Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, including fan favourite characters. Some of these characters included Nova and Glenn Close as the voice of Xandarian Worldmind.
When speaking with Comicbook.com, screenwriter Christopher Markus discussed how Nova and Glenn Close were cut from Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame very early on in the writing process.
“We actually had, I remember in the big manifesto thing that we did, where the first work we did on these movies where we just… every possible storyline that you could take from what’s around, that Nova has the Xandarian Worldmind. Yeah, the Xandarian Worldmind, was that after… it was almost going… In this conception, he would be the herald, not unlike the Hulk, who was actually standing in for the Silver Surfer, but that one member of the Nova Corps survived Thanos’ attack. The Xandarian Worldmind would be the voice of Glenn Close, because you had her and why not? And that he would be Richard Rider and he would come to earth.”
Nova was also cut from Guardians of the Galaxy, the film that introduced Glenn Close to the MCU. It’s disappointing that we didn’t see Nova and the return of Glenn Close in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. However, Nova could easily make its MCU debut in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, which also would be a perfect way to introduce Glenn Close back into the MCU.
