X-Men actress Olivia Munn recently revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. While the actress is currently in recovery, she has taken to social media to share her story with the world.
Olivia Munn is a rather prolific actress in the superhero space. Her most well-known role was as Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, she also voiced Akiko in Hit-Monkey and played Chess Roberts in Iron Man 2. She serves as an inspiration for many young girls in geek communities, which is why the news that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer shocked so many.
In a message posted to her Instagram, Oliva Munn revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer back in April 2023 following a visit with her OBGYN. She was diagnosed with Luminal B cancer in both breasts, a very aggressive and fast-moving form of cancer. Luckily, the diagnosis was caught early, allowing her to receive a double mastectomy as treatment. Her full statement about her experience can be read below.
Olivia Munn thanked quite a few people in her post, including the doctors and nurses who helped her through her battle with breast cancer. The X-Men actress also included a special thanks to John Mulaney, whom she had a child with back in 2021.
Olivia Munn still has some projects lined up following her recovery. She’s currently attached to the show Your Friends and Neighbors, which is currently in preproduction for Apple TV+. Hit-Monkey has also been renewed for season 2, with her likely returning to voice Akiko in the upcoming season.
Breast cancer is a very terrifying disease that goes overlooked by many despite its publicity. It’s important to regularly check for signs of cancer and, as stated by Olivia Munn in her statement, to calculate a Breast Cancer Assessment Score when recommended by a health care provider.
