A new Oscars award will allow Twitter users to vote for their favorite film of 2021, even if it wasn’t nominated.
When the Academy revealed who earned a Best Picture nomination at this year’s Oscars, some fans were vocal about films like Spider-Man: No Way Home missing the cut. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an informal Oscars category will now recognize a film voted by Twitter users starting on Monday.
By using the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite, you can vote for your favorite film from 2021. Any film can earn the award, even if it didn’t get nominated for this year’s Oscars. However, a movie like Zack Snyder’s Justice League is not eligible for the award based on this list. Voting will go on until March 3, and the award will be presented during the Oscars broadcast based on what film gets the most votes. Three users who vote for a fan-favorite movie will also be selected to present an award at the 2023 ceremony.
Twitter users will also get a chance to vote for their favorite scene from last year’s crop of films with the hashtag #OscarsCheerMoment. The winning scenes will also appear during this year’s Oscars, along with tweets from fans. Five participants will also be selected for a prize that includes a full year of movie tickets, streaming service subscriptions, and exclusive Academy Museum store items.
