Is Paradise Lost actually in production? DC Studios co-head James Gunn sets the record straight when it comes to progress on projects in the DC Universe.
Fans have been concerned about how many projects James Gunn and the rest of his team have been juggling ever since the first slate for the DC Universe was announced. This has left many to wonder if certain shows, like Paradise Lost, are still in production. When asked about this, Gunn said it isn’t in production, but it is in development.
“Nothing is ‘in production’ unless it’s been greenlit,” Gunn wrote in a recent statement on Threads. “Right now that’s Superman, Supergirl, Penguin, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and a handful of animated projects. But Paradise Lost like many other titles known and unknown is still in very active development – it will be in production once we have a script or scripts we think are great and ready to shoot, never before.”
The difference between production and development has always been rather loose online. However, it’s good to hear that Paradise Lost hasn’t been canned yet, even if it isn’t actively being put together. Though given how close many DC Universe projects are to production, it’s likely news about the series may be coming relatively soon.
James Gunn Speaks On DC Universe Castings
Another thing fans have been worrying about outside of smaller projects like Paradise Lost being canned is how casting is being handled for the DC Universe. Some assume that James Gunn is simply tossing actors into roles willy-nilly. However, according to Gunn, nothing gets cast until a project is actively in production, stating “As an aside, we aren’t officially cast on anything that isn’t greenlit.”
While a relief to hear James Gunn isn’t just casting people without projects, this may put a damper on those who were hoping that casting choices may tide them over until projects like Paradise Lost and Swamp Thing enter production. However, given how much news is coming out of the DC Universe on a daily basis, they may not even need an update right now.
