‘Paradise Lost’ Series Reportedly Cancelled Ahead Of ‘Wonder Woman’ Reboot

Is Paradise truly lost?

Is Paradise Lost officially dead? The series is reportedly cancelled as the DC Universe shifts focus to its upcoming Wonder Woman reboot film.

One major outlier when it comes to the current DC Universe slate is Paradise Lost. While there are plenty of projects featuring C-string characters, it’s the only series where the heroine whose supporting cast comprises the series – Wonder Woman – hasn’t been cast due to their reboot still being in development.

There was some hope that the series could still come to light given that James Gunn himself has assured fans that Paradise Lost is still in development for the DC Universe. However, this was before news dropped that Ana Nogueira would be penning the script for a Wonder Woman reboot. This is important as it likely means the film would take priority when it comes to world building.

Is Paradise Lost Cancelled?

Of course, nothing is sure until James Gunn decides to tweet about it on a random Tuesday afternoon. However, if one puts any stock in the rumor mill, it does seem as though Paradise Lost is cancelled. The DC Studios co-chair reportedly told writers that the series wouldn’t be happening, though didn’t explicitly name the Wonder Woman reboot as a cause.

“Sources are telling me that DC was meeting with writers for Paradise Lost, was taking pitches for Paradise Lost, but they’ve been informed that the project is dead,” John Rocha explains on Geek Buddies.Paradise Lost is dead. Will not be happening as a TV show. And not dead in the sense of like, well, they’re just going to wait for a script.”

“They’re being told, these writers and these people who’ve pitched storylines for Paradise Lost to be the showrunners or the writers on Paradise Lost, they’ve been told that this project is now dead, no longer an active development. Dead.”

Perhaps the easiest explanation as to why Paradise Lost was cancelled, if this rumor is true, is that the Amazons simply don’t play a large role in the Wonder Woman reboot. As such, it’d be a waste to cast them in the series if those corners of the universe simply don’t intersect. Though in that sense, it’s also possible that the project could be revived somewhere down the line.

Paradise Lost has a series order for Max by DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
