Fans are worried about James Gunn’s future. A new report suggests Paramount CEO David Ellison “loves” DC Studios, suggesting potential leadership changes.
Ever since it was revealed that Paramount would be merging with Warner Bros. Discovery, there has been some worry that James Gunn might be kicked out as co-chair of DC Studios. This is because Paramount’s CEO, David Ellison, is a rather close confidant of the right-leaning Trump Administration. And while Gunn’s movies aren’t explicitly partisan, their villains are often far-right.
The hope for some is that David Ellison simply wouldn’t care about DC Studios following the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. After all, the CEO has been vocal that his main purpose of purchasing the studio was to get control of CNN, so it’s possible that James Gunn and his fellow creatives could fly under the radar.
David Ellison Takes Aim At DC Studios
That WAS the hope, at least. A recent report from Deadline revealed what happened during a recent meeting between the Paramount CEO and executives at Warner Bros. Discovery. According to the outlet, David Ellison named DC Studios twice during these discussions, claiming that he “loves” DC. This means that James Gunn and his projects are certainly at the top of mind.
Whether or not David Ellison actually fires James Gunn, or if Gunn himself quits, likely won’t be known for a few years. The merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery still has quite a lot of hurdles to jump when it comes to regulatory agencies, and recent international conflicts have cast doubt on whether or not Ellison will be able to secure funding from Middle Eastern investors that were key to acquiring the studio.
