Sir Patrick Stewart made his official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, it seems his return as Professor X was more frustrating than satisfying.
Many assumed that Sir Patrick Stewart’s time as Professor X was finished after Logan. This made his return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a titillating treat to MCU fans parched for any mutant presence. However, it seems his cameo as Charles Xavier was far from sunshine and rainbows, with the actor explaining how frustrating the project was to film due to COVID:
“I was alone. I think that in the big scene, each one of the leading actors had the same experience. They were shot on their own.” Sir Patrick Stewart explained during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “It was supremely frustrating and disappointing. That’s how it’s been…the last few years have been challenging.”
It’s certainly understandable for Sir Patrick Stewart to be frustrated that his grand return as Charles Xavier was alone on a soundstage. Yet it seems his time as Professor X may not be over yet. With Avengers: Secret Wars set to be the grand conclusion to the multiverse saga and Deadpool 3 being a true love letter to Fox’s X-Men, it’s likely he’ll appear in at least one more project to make up for the disappointing experience that was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
