Patton Oswalt might’ve let it slip that an Eternals sequel is in development with Chloé Zhao returning to direct.
Eternals was one of the most polarizing Marvel Studios films to date, with the film also introducing lots of new characters. So far, we don’t know where the characters will turn up next in the MCU, and a sequel isn’t guaranteed. However, the film still concluded with “Eternals will return…” like many MCU films.
Patton Oswalt appeared during the mid-credits scene for Eternals as Pip the Troll with Harry Styles’ Starfox. Kevin Feige recently teased after Marvel Studios’ presentation at San Diego Comic-Con that there will be more of Pip and Starfox in the future. Well, on Today, Oswalt said that an Eternals sequel is happening with Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao:
“They have announced there’s going to be an Eternals sequel, Chloé Zhao is going to direct it. So hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip.”
Will Eternals 2 Be Announced At D23?
There was no word of any Eternals-related projects at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but there are still plenty of slots open for a sequel to fill. If an Eternals sequel is indeed happening, there’s a good chance it would be announced at D23 in September. Deadpool 3, a Shang-Chi sequel, Werewolf By Night, and an X-Men reboot are other announcements that might come next month.
Here is the synopsis for Chloé Zhao’s Eternals:
The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.
Chloé Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD and also to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the MCU, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
