The DC Universe may have finally found its Batman! …or did it? Here’s the truth about the rumor that Paul Anthony Kelly is a frontrunner to play the Caped Crusader.
One of the most popular pastimes when it comes to being a fan of the DC Universe is speculating who could play the franchise’s Batman. Dozens of names have been thrown out both in the rumor mill and in online communities. Alan Ritchson, Brendan Sklenar, and Jonathan Bailey should all be familiar names to anyone who keeps up with the conversation on social media.
However, a recent rumor throws a new hat in the ring. A report from DeuxMoi suggests that Paul Anthony Kelly is actually being considered for a role in the DC Universe, with many immediately jumping to him playing Batman. For those unfamiliar, Kelly is about as close to a “complete unknown” as one could get, with his only prominent role being that of John F. Kennedy Jr. in the recently released Love Story series on FX.
The Truth About Paul Anthony Kelly’s Batman Rumor
While many can look at Paul Anthony Kelly and see him as a perfect choice to play Batman, it’s likely this rumor is more fiction than fact. For one, DeuxMoi is (by design) a blind item outlet. ANYONE can submit a tip. As such, anything that comes out of their outlet is inherently unverified. This isn’t to mention that James Gunn has confirmed that he won’t cast for DC Universe projects that aren’t currently in production.
Of course, it’s possible that the rumor about him joining the DC Universe IS true, but the speculation about him playing Batman is false. If so, given the production timeline, it’s likely that Paul Anthony Kelly would be being eyed for a voice role in Creature Commandos. Out of all the characters reported for the series, he’d likely be taking on the role of Captain Atom.
Batman: The Brave and The Bold is currently in development at DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
