Peacemaker season 2 is finally OUT! Here’s everything the premiere’s recap confirmed as canon to the brand new DC Universe continuity.

One of the biggest questions fans have had on their mind when it comes to the new DC Universe is continuity. What’s canon, who’s canon, and- most importantly- what movies or tv shows carry over from the prior continuity. This has been a big sticking point heading into season 2 of Peacemaker, especially given the first season had so many references to the broader DC Universe.

Now with season 2 officially streaming on HBO Max, fans have some (albeit not all) of the answers they’re looking for. Many of these answers came in the form of a recap covering the events of the first season with a few key details change. Below is every important detail we found in that recap, from continuity changes to the confirmation of some key characters that exist in the DC Universe.

Kite Man Is Canon. Hell Yeah!

One of the first clips shown off in the recap is the infamous classroom scene from the first season of Peacemaker. Out of all the clips they could have shown, James Gunn decided to cut in a scene where Peacemaker recounts an encounter with Kite Man. This confirms that Gotham’s most disappointing villain is canon to the new DC Universe (even if it’s not likely fans will be seeing him anytime soon)

Peacemaker Keeps His New Origin

One of the big questions on fans’ minds heading into Peacemaker season 2 is if James Gunn would use the opportunity to bring the origins’ of the main cast closer in line with their comic counterparts. While most of the curiosity revolved around the origin of Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, there was some question of if Peacemaker would go back to his more diplomatic roots.

Turns out, James Gunn had no plans to make changes THAT big heading into season 2. The recap confirms that Peacemaker still comes from a poor family, still killed his brother, and was still a villain that brought “Peace” by any means necessary. At least fans know, as much as the DC Universe changes, plenty stays the same.

The White Dragon Is Slain

One of the most chilling moments from the first season of Peacemaker came from the final moments of the series. Christopher Smith retires back to his trailer following the foiling of Operation Butterfly and the killing of his father Auggie Smith, aka the White Dragon.

The Justice Gang Replaced The Justice League

As many suspected, James Gunn decided to go the gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss route when it came to the Justice League scene at the end of Peacemaker season 1. Instead of trying to reconcile the team as part of the new DC Universe or pretend it didn’t exist altogether, the director decided to put the Justice Gang in their place. However, there were two new members in season 2….

Superman & Supergirl Work With The Justice Gang

The scene also revealed that both Superman and Supergirl work alongside the Justice Gang on certain missions, as far back as the events of Peacemaker season 1. While James Gunn has confirmed that Superman isn’t a part of the Justice Gang, his close ties with the group could prove interesting as the story of season 2 continues to develop.
