Is Peacemaker officially coming to an end? James Gunn suggests the widely beloved series may not end up making a return for season 3.
Fans have been absolutely loving Peacemaker season 2, with each week going viral on social media for one reason or another. And with the season finally coming to an end, fans have been speculating where the show may take itself heading into season 3. After all, with the last episode seemingly setting up one of the first major conflicts of the DC Universe, James Gunn certainly has a plan for these characters to return, right?
Sadly, it seems those plans may not actually include a season 3. When speaking about the future of the series to Deadline, James Gunn admits that he isn’t exactly banking on Peacemaker continuing beyond the current season. However, he does admit that he’s open to seeing where things may lead heading into the future of the DC Universe.
“You’re gonna find out more in episode 8 because it’s not necessarily that. Some of these characters will continue, but also, it’s not exactly Peacemaker 3. I’m not ruling it out. You’ll see [episode] 8 and maybe you’ll find out a little bit more.”
Will Peacemaker Get A Season 3?
Given how James Gunn is speaking, many have assumed that the cast of Peacemaker will return for a project that isn’t exactly season 3, but may carry on the storyline set up in season 2. The leading point of this speculation is that the finale may set up a Sentinels of Justice series, a team from the original Charlton Comics from which Peacemaker originated.
However, the difference between Peacemaker season 3 and a new series is that it’s possible some of the 11th Street Kids get left behind. While it’s very likely that characters like Christopher Smith and Vigilante make the transition, others like Economos or Adebyao may be left behind to make room for bigger names and faces.
