Wonder Woman just got beat by Peacemaker as the highest-rated DCEU project on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wonder Woman launched to commercial and critical claim in 2017, becoming the DC Extended Universe’s highest-rated project on Rotten Tomatoes with a whopping 93% Fresh rating. Since then, no project, not even the fan-favorite Shazam! or irreverent The Suicide Squad could topple Diana Prince’s legendary rating… that is until now.
With James Gunn’s Peacemaker series now airing on HBO Max, Wonder Woman has finally met her match. The recently released action-comedy series has usurped Gal Gadot’s solo DCEU debut with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – 1% higher than Wonder Woman. Though there are still four more episodes to air, critics were given the first seven, so it’s highly unlikely that the rating will significantly change – that is unless the finale is a shocking disappointment.
Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn even took to Twitter to share thanks for all the acclaim the series has received in the last few weeks.
Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins are currently hard at work bringing Wonder Woman 3 to the big screen. Only time will tell if the threequel will be able to dethrone James Gunn’s unhinged patriotic “hero”.
Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s Peacemaker:
PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!
Peacemaker was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DC show’s score.
The HBO Max series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Peacemaker is now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding James Gunn’s upcoming projects, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
