Superman: Legacy found its Lois Lane in Rachel Brosnahan. However, it seems Phoebe Dynevor almost played the fearless reporter in James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot.

For many people, James Gunn has hit nothing but home runs with his casting for Superman: Legacy. Yet it seems the casting for a few DC Universe roles was closer than fans may have expected. According to a recent interview, Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor was one of the finalists to play Lois Lane in the reboot before Rachel Brosnahan was ultimately chosen for the part.

“It was a whirlwind and then I realized that it was over, but it was great,” Dynevor explained to Variety when asked about her audition to play Lois Lane. “She saves Superman. She’s the brains; she’s actually the fearless one.”

It certainly would’ve been interesting to see Phoebe Dynevor take on the role of Lois Lane. The actress is known for bringing an emotional depth to complex scenes, seemingly making her perfect for such a nuanced role in the DC Universe. While James Gunn ultimately chose Rachel Brosnahan to star in the upcoming reboot, here’s to hoping the filmmaker has another spot open for Dynevor.

What to expect from Superman’s DC Universe debut

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
