A new image from Indiana Jones 5 shows Harison Ford and franchise newcomer Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The folks at Empire Magazine have revealed the first official image of Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the yet-to-be titled fifth Indiana Jones movie. According to the site, Waller-Bridge is playing Helena, the goddaughter of Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones.
Speaking with the Empire, Phoebe Waller-Bridge opened up about how she ended up in the Indiana Jones franchise, revealing that it all started with a dinner invitation from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
“Kathy was in London and asked to have dinner with me, and casually mentioned this,” Waller-Bridge told the magazine. “I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then it was the fastest I’ve ever read a script; I came out of a sort of haze afterwards. I just couldn’t believe how much fun I had and how moved I was by it. And then I had a Zoom and screamed, ‘YES!’ at them all.”
The Indiana Jones images arrive a few days after the news that Disney and Lucasfilm are looking to keep the franchise alive through new projects, including a Disney Plus series. Harrison Ford has stated that the next movie is his last turn as Indy.
The future of the Indiana Jones franchise
The Indiana Jones Disney Plus series is still in early development, but it’s being envisioned as a prequel to 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. It is expected to focus on a young version of Abner Ravenwood, the father of Karen Allen’s Marion Ravenwood.
If a television series ends up moving forward, the Indiana Jones franchise would be returning to the small screen for the first time since the 1990s. Indy was previously the face of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on ABC, as well as four television specials from the Family Channel, the network that is now known as Freeform. Harrison Ford made an apppearance in one episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, which also starred Sean Patrick Flanery, Corey Carrier and George Hall, with the four actors playing the titular hero across various stages of his life.
In addition to Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones 5 also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Toby Jones. James Mangold co-wrote the script alongside Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.
Indiana Jones 5 is currently slated to hit theaters on June 30, 2023. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the movie and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
