Las Vegas is currently hosting CinemaCon and DC Universe fans are excited about the upcoming announcements for the highly-anticipated comic book movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. While the convention has just begun, Aquaman fans have already gotten a glimpse of the official poster for the movie.
Dicussing Film shared a photo of the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom poster on social media, showcasing the icy appearance of the one-sheet. While it doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it does tie into some of the concept art that director James Wan had previously shared, featuring a huge monster trapped within the ice.
With Henry Cavill’s Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam no longer in the DC Universe, Jason Momoa recently assured fans that he is still attached to the role of Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman. However, Momoa also hinted that he could play other DC Comics characters down the line.
Jason Momoa made his debut as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opened in theaters in March 2016. The following year, Momoa was featured alongside the rest of the DC Universe heroes in Justice League, before reprising the role for his Aquaman standalone movie, which is the highest-grossing DC Comics feature to date. His character will next be seen in Aquaman and the Last Kingdom, which arrives on December 20th.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
