Pierce Brosnan Explains Doctor Fate’s Powers In ‘Black Adam’

Magic is like a drug...

Pierce Brosnan Doctor Fate Black Adam

Pierce Brosnan has broken down how Doctor Fate’s powers work in the upcoming Dwayne Johnson superhero film, Black Adam.

In 2019, it was revealed that the DC character Doctor Fate would be a character in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. This was confirmed the following year and it was eventually revealed that the film would involve the Justice Society of America. In early 2021, it was also revealed that Pierce Brosnan of James Bond fame would be portraying the DC hero.

The Helmet of Fate Explained

Like many magic-based comic book characters, Doctor Fate’s powers are somewhat ill-defined and tend to change depending on who is currently writing the character or who holds the title. A key defining point of all versions of the character, however, is the Helmet of Fate which most versions of the character wield. While speaking to Total Film via GameRadar, Pierce Brosnan broke down exactly what the helmet could do for Doctor Fate and how taxing it is on the character:

“He has powers to foresee the future, and raise the dead, and teleport, while wearing a gold helmet. … It’s a blessing and a curse. It’s almost like a drug addiction in some respects. It takes a lot of energy to wear the helmet. It was a very beautifully designed outfit and helmet, which I’m quite fond of. [Director] Jaume Collet-Serra is very inclusive in the collaboration. He was wonderful in the sense that he would send me designs of the helmet, so I could participate in the look of it.”

Here is the synopsis for Black Adam:

“Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.

Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
