The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Warner Bros. is developing a Plastic Man film based on DC Comics’ hero of the same name.

Warner Bros. has set rising screenwriter Amanda Idoko to pen the script for the Plastic Man film, with studio reportedly intent on remaining faithful to the silly tone and humor of the DC Comics hero. Although there is currently no director attached to the project, former New Line co-founder Bob Shaye will serve as an executive producer while President of DC-based film production Walter Hamada and Chantal Nong will oversee the comedic action-adventure film for Warner Bros.

Amanda Idoko’s previous credits include working as a staff writer on the short-lived ABC comedy The Mayor and her feature film script for Breaking News in Yuba County is set to go into production in 2019.

In the comics, Plastic Man started life as a criminal named Patrick “Eel” O’Brian. While attempting to rob Cole Chemical with his crew, the police arrived and O’Brian was shot and exposed to an unknown acid while trying to evade capture. After passing out and being left to die, O’Brian wakes up to discover he has gained to ability to stretch his body and form into almost anything. Although O’Brian initially considered taking his own life, a former Arkham Asylum inmate convinced him to use his abilities to fight crime as a hero the press mistakenly names Plastic Man.
