The world has lost yet another hero: Ray Stevenson, best known for his roles as Volstagg in Thor and Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone, has passed away at the age of 58.
Born in the city of Lisburn in Northern Ireland on 25 May, 1964, George Raymond Stevenson had a long and storied career in the halls of nerd culture. He moved to England with his family when he turned eight where he would eventually attend the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating at 29.
While he was best known for his role as Frank Castle AKA the Punisher in War Zone, Ray Stevenson’s acting career extended far past it. He continued his role as the Punisher in the cartoon The Super Hero Squad show before landing the role of Volstagg in the Thor trilogy. He also played Gar Saxon across numerous Star Wars cartoons and Firefly in G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
Ray Stevenson will have two final posthumous roles in 1242: Gateway to the West and the upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka for Disney Plus. Stevenson will play one of Ahsoka‘s antagonists in the new character of Baylon Skoll. Not much is known about the character aside from having an apprentice in Ivanna Sakhno’s Shin Hati and being a former Jedi who survived Order 66 by fleeing into the Unknown Regions.
While Ray Stevenon’s passing has been confirmed, there is currently no cause of death that has been disclosed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
