Quentin Tarantino Names ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ His Favorite Marvel Studios Movie

Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino has revealed that his favorite Marvel Studios movie is Thor: Ragnarok.

Well-known filmmakers like James Cameron and David Fincher have criticized the Marvel Studios formula in the past, but Quentin Tarantino is not among them. In fact, Tarantino is a longtime comic book fan and almost made a movie about the street-level hero Luke Cage back in the ’90s.

During a recent interview with Empire, Quentin Tarantino revealed that he recently started binge-watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies he missed in theaters so he can check out Avengers: Endgame. That’s when the legendary director mentioned that Thor: Ragnarok is his favorite Marvel Studios movie.

“I haven’t been keeping up to date with them for, I guess, the last four years. I think the only comic book movies I saw last year at theaters were Wonder Woman and Black Panther. But about a couple of weeks ago I started catching up with some of the Marvel movies so I could go see Endgame. I just finished Captain America: Civil War, so next up is Doctor Strange… Actually, the last one I saw was [Thor:] Ragnarok. I loved it. It was my favourite one of the series since The Avengers – drastically my favorite.”

Ragnarok was directed by Taika Waititi, the man behind critically-acclaimed indie flicks like What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Waititi was praised for revitalizing the Thor franchise with Ragnarok after Thor: The Dark World, which is widely regarded as one of the weakest entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thor was last seen in Avengers: Endgame, which is still playing in theaters. Here’s the synopsis:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers:Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo,  Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
