The teaser trailer for Ahsoka gave fans their first look at a mysterious character wielding a lightsaber played by the late Ray Stevenson. A new interview reveals that the character, now known as Baylan Skoll, is a survivor of Order 66.
Very little information about Baylan Skoll has been revealed since fans first saw him in the Ahsoka teaser. While much of the character is still shrouded in mystery, the latest interview for the Star Wars project with the late Ray Stevenson reveals that he’s a Jedi Knight who survived Order 66 and became a mercenary for General Thrawn. Though Stevenson assured fans he hasn’t fallen solely to the dark side:
“He is not genocidal or malicious or overly aggressive,” Stevenson told Empire Magazine. “He will request that you get out of his way. But if you don’t, he will take you out his way.”
While fans are sure to find a Jedi mercenary played by the former star of Punisher: War Zone intriguing, the revelation that Baylan Skoll will be yet another Jedi who survived Order 66 may rub others the wrong way. Given a few dozen Jedi are now confirmed to survive what was meant to be a turning point in the Star Wars universe, the importance of Ray Stevenson’s character surviving in Ahsoka may end up being diminished.
